Episode 10: 2016 Mock Draft - Free Agency Frenzy

For starters, we will apologize for the length of this post because It will include both the links for the podcast and the two round mock draft.

Now with that said, there is a lot of NFL Draft content for you to enjoy, scrutinize, and just generally have feelings over so hopefully we won't ruin your day (we really wan't to ruin your week). Part 1 of the podcast has picks 1 through 16, and Part 2 has picks 17 through 32. Hopefully that makes you happy that you'll only need to listen to one half of our show besides having to deal with us for a full hour!

Enjoy, responsibly!

Episode 10: 2016 Mock Draft - Free Agent Frenzy Part 1

Episode 10: 2016 Mock Draft - Free Agency Frenzy Part 2

Chaz: Even
Zach: Odd

  1. Tennessee Titans: Jalen Ramsey, CB/S, Florida State - Is Ramsey the top talent in the class, no, but he is the first top five defensive back in a long time. Picking Tunsil here feels like a waste of a pick. If you’re not going to help Mariota create more plays you might as well put a playmaker in your weak secondary.

  1. Cleveland Browns: Ronnie Stanley, OT, Notre Dame - I think the Browns think they know what they are doing, and I think that means being conservative. If this was any other draft, their other pick (32) would be a first. So someone can fall there, or they can use it to trade up. They know how valuable a franchise LT can be and their relationship with Joe Thomas is on the rocks, they invest in one of the best tackle prospects in years.

  1. San Diego Chargers: Laremy Tunsil, OT, Ole Miss - The Chargers and Philip Rivers may cry if they can finally land a true franchise left tackle. Tunsil is extremely athletic for his size and he sacrifices no strength to have elite athleticism.

  1. Dallas Cowboys: Vernon Hargreaves, CB, Florida - Imagine Joe Haden, but with much better technical ability, and less reliant on his athletic ability. That's VH3. Hes going to be a premier guy for years to come and the cowboys can pair that with the talented Byron Jones.

  1. Jacksonville Jaguars: Myles Jack, LB, UCLA - Jack is a playmaker. The Jags supposedly wanted Bruce Irvin in free agency, but I believe that Jack can play the same role but better.

  1. Baltimore Ravens: Deforest Buckner, Oregon - In my opinion, this is a BPA pick. The Ravens need to fix their OL but there's no one here worth it, same goes for secondary. Buckner is an absolute animal and will beef up that front 7.

  1. San Francisco 49ers: Laquon Treadwell, WR, Ole Miss - The 49ers have a quarterback controversy on their hands. Regardless of who plays quarterback you have old Anquan Boldin and hit or miss Torrey Smith. Treadwell is a younger version of Boldin so a year of understudy with playing time would be great for him.

  1. Philadelphia Eagles (From Miami): Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Ohio State - The eagles have a lot of money invested in Sam Bradford, and Chase Daniel. The dynamic QB duo will make more this year (combined) than Aaron Rodgers, and idk, but I'll take half an Aaron Rodgers over 10 Bradford/Daniels. They need to support this decision by beefing up the O, so they add the most talented offensive skill position player (consensus opinion, not mine) in the draft.

  1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Joey Bosa, DE/Rush, Ohio State - This pick isn’t as necessary since the Robert Ayers addition, but Bosa is too good to pass up at this point. Bosa, Ayers, and McCoy make this a nasty front four to alleviate a poor secondary. Also, enjoy Miko Grimes being a social media nuisance.

  1. New York Giants: Reggie Ragland, LB, Alabama - So the Giants stole away the beloved Snacks. Now that the LBs will be getting less pressure, they can plug in an old school thumper to be the leader of the D for years.

  1. Chicago Bears: Carson Wentz, QB, North Dakota State - I don’t see this team going anywhere with Jay Cutler, sorry Bears fans. Since it’s unlikely that the Bears will even make the playoffs this season it would be a great time to invest in a quarterback. Wentz has all of the tools, but needs some development time.

  1. New Orleans Saints: Jared Goff, QB, Cal - You don't deny gifts. Jared Goff falling to the Saints is a gift. Who better for Goff to learn under than brees? And that wide open Saints system with brandin cooks? A move like this will rejuvenate a franchise and team that seems to be tired, and sees the other young qb’s in the division taking off. They sit goff for a year, he steps right in.

  1. Miami Dolphins (From Philadelphia): William Jackson III, CB, Houston - Is this high for Jackson? Yeah, probably. Miami solidified that they are moving to the Wide 9 Zone scheme when they traded for Byron Maxwell. Jackson is the best zone coverage corner, with speed, with ball skills, and with size. He screams Vance Joseph and playmaker.

  1. Oakland Raiders: Shaq Lawson, DE, Clemson - The Raiders have made huge splashes in free agency, including added pass rusher Bruce Irvin. Shaq Lawson is an animal on the edge that can rush the passer or add run support. He will free up plenty of room for Mack and Irvin to work with.

  1. Los Angeles Rams: Paxton Lynch, QB, Memphis - New city, new quarterback for Jeff Fisher to ruin. I kid, I kid, but really Paxton Lynch is probably as capable as Nick Foles and has more athleticism. I like Foles, but Lynch could be the start of something interesting in Los Angeles.

  1. Detroit Lions: Taylor Decker, OT, Ohio State - Outside of the top two guys, Decker has the best potential as a left tackle. He can be paired up nicely with Tomlinson, last year's first round pick.

  1. Atlanta Falcons: Sheldon Rankins, DT, Louisville - Rankins is a dynamic interior defender. Pairing him with Hageman would continue to build a tenacious defense Dan Quinn wants.

  1. Indianapolis Colts: Jack Conklin, OT, MSU - The Colts need to keep their guy upright. It's not very complicated, and Conklin will not only do that, but he will add some swagger and grit to that line.

  1. Buffalo Bills: Noah Spence, DE/OLB, Eastern Kentucky - Is Rex Ryan finally sick of having lame 34 pass rushers? Spence has some off the field issues, but Rex is a great coach for those kind of kids. Spence’s 40 time may have turned off some teams, but his pass rushing ability is undeniable.

  1. New York Jets: Josh Doctson, WR, TCU - The Jets have holes at linebacker and offensive line, and quarterback. But I think the Jets should stick with going BPA, and josh doctson is the most gifted offensive playmaker in this draft. The AJ Green comparisons are legit.

  1. Washington: Mackensie Alexander, CB, Clemson - I don’t like Alexander at all and I don’t like Washington so there is my logic for this pick. Being more serious, Alexander is a solid man coverage number 2 corner or nickel, but that’s about it.

  1. Houston Texans: Will Fuller, WR, Notre Dame - The Texans have a QB, a RB, a decent line, a solid defense, and a star #1… The rich get richer?

  1. Minnesota Vikings: Emmanuel Ogbah, DE, Oklahoma State - I love Ogbah, so it’s hard to understand why he wasn’t getting love prior to the Combine. The Vikings have dabbled with other ends, but Ogbah is a pass rushing talent they can’t pass.

  1. Cincinnati Bengals: Corey Coleman, WR, Baylor - The Bengals lost 2 wide receivers in one offseason. Either jones or sanu ever displayed the type of explosive play making ability coleman has.

  1. Pittsburgh Steelers: Eli Apple, CB, Ohio State - Apple is a physical man to man corner, but with only two years of college experience he is understandably raw. The Steelers secondary has been in a drought for years.

  1. Seattle Seahawks: La’Raven Clark, OT, Texas Tech -  Clark has some of the best footwork of any tackle in this class. He has a long frame and vines for arms. He has a pro bowl caliber ceiling and really doesn’t show any huge signs for concern. The seahawks have needs on the line and they always find ways to uncover some of the more hidden gems available.

  1. Green Bay Packers: Jaylon Smith, LB, Notre Dame - Supposedly Smith’s stock tanked when his physical came in with nerve damage in his knee. This may mean nothing, but as someone with a similar knee injury and nerve damage I’m fine. If Smith is fine like I believe he will be the Packers will get another draft steal.

  1. Kansas City Chiefs: Cody Whitehair, OG, Kansas - The Chiefs are a well put together team, but they could use upgrades up front. Whitehair could play anywhere on the line and play well. He has future star interior lineman written all over him.

  1. New England Patriots: Pick Forfeited for DeflateGate

  1. Arizona Cardinals: Kamalei Correa, OLB, Boise State - I found Correa late in the season this past fall, and I like his skill set, but he’s raw when it comes to hand use and technique in general. The Cardinals took a raw offensive tackle last year and it looks like that will pay off, so I believe they will be willing to roll the dice again.

  1. Carolina Panthers: Derrick Henry, RB, Alabama - O line is more of a need but Henry is an intriguing talent, and if I'm Ron Rivera, Cam, Henry, Benjamin, Funchess, and Olsen at the same time would create a world of mismatches due to each player's monstrous size.

  1. Denver Broncos: Darron Lee, OLB, Ohio State - Lee could go much higher than this, but I could see him playing the same role as Ryan Shazier does in Pittsburgh. Lee is an ultra athletic run and chase monster backer type of player that will clean up anything that happens to get past their defensive line.

  • Miami sends 8th pick overall to Philadelphia for the 13th pick overall, Kiko Alonso, and Byron Maxwell.

  1. Cleveland Browns: Dak Prescott, QB, Miss St:
  2. Tennessee Titans: Jason Spriggs, OT, Indiana
  3. Dallas Cowboys:Braxton Miller, WR, Ohio State
  4. San Diego Chargers: Adolphus Washington, DT, Ohio State
  5. Baltimore Ravens: Su’a Cravens, OLB, USC
  6. San Francisco 49ers: Kendall Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech
  7. Jacksonville Jaguars: Nick Martin, C, Notre Dame
  8. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Darian Thompson, S, Boise State
  9. New York Giants: Tyler Boyd, WR, Pitt
  10. Chicago Bears: Leonard Floyd, OLB, Georgia
  11. Miami Dolphins: Robert Nkemdiche, DT, Ole Miss
  12. Los Angeles Rams (From Philadelphia): Michael Thomas, WR, Ohio State
  13. Oakland Raiders: Kenny Clark, DT, UCLA
  14. Los Angeles Rams: Kevin Dodd, DE, Clemson
  15. Detroit Lions: Shilique Calhoun, DE, MSU
  16. New Orleans Saints: Vadal Alexander, G, LSU
  17. Indianapolis Colts: Vonn Bell, S, Ohio State
  18. Buffalo Bills: Germain Ifedi, OT, Texas A&M
  19. Atlanta Falcons: Jayron Kearse, S, Clemson
  20. New York Jets: Kyler Fackrell, OLB, Utah
  21. Houston Texans: Hunter Henry, TE, Arkansas
  22. Washington: Karl Joseph, S, West Virginia
  23. Minnesota Vikings: Sterling Shepard, WR, Oklahoma
  24. Cincinnati Bengals: Andrew Billings, DT, Baylor
  25. Seattle Seahawks: Jerald Hawkins, OT, LSU
  26. Green Bay Packers: Jarran Reed, DT, Alabama
  27. Pittsburgh Steelers: Joshua Garnett, OG, Stanford
  28. Kansas City Chiefs: Connor Cook, QB, Michigan State
  29. New England Patriots: Jordan Jenkins, OLB, Georgia
  30. Arizona Cardinals: Spencer Drango, G, Baylor
  31. Carolina Panthers: Landon Turner, OG, North Carolina
  32. Denver Broncos: Jerell Adams, TE, South Carolina

  • Los Angeles Rams acquire the 43rd overall pick from Philadelphia in last year’s Sam Bradford trade.

    1. I believe Chaz was referring to the relationship between Joe Thomas and the Browns, not his play level. When you talk about trading a future HoF LT and dump all of your team talent it tends to create animosity with players that have given you their all.

Thank you for your comment though!
